Loading Transaction Data from Flat file

This blog post describes the steps involved in the loading of Finance transaction data which is in the form of a Flat file to a BPC 10.0 NW system. 


Prerequisites: 

Before the transaction data load we must create an environment with dimensions and models. Here are the dimensions used in the Finance Model:



Account Dimension:



Entity Dimension:



Category Dimension:



Time Dimension:



Intercompany Dimension:



Rptcurrency Dimension:



Data load steps:

1. Upload the data: 

Log into BPC Excel Add-In to upload data file from the desktop to the BPC environment.



Select the Finance Model in the Connection Manager. If you don't see your Finance Model here, ensure that you have configured the Data Access Profiles in your Security.

2. Preview the data:





3. Create conversion file:

A conversion file is used when there is a difference between the format of master data and transaction data. In our example the transaction data in stored as 2008.JAN while the master data is 2008.01.




4. Validate and process conversion file:






5. Create transformation file:

A transformation file has 3 parts - Options, Mapping and Conversion


6. Validate and process transformation file:







7. Create a package:


Create a package group by right clicking.



Add a package by right clicking.






8. Run the package:


















9. Build a report:

Select Account dimension in the row axis and Time dimension in the column axis to build a simple report.


Adjust the context to see data in our report.
